Island Time

Hiya!  It completely boggles my mind that we're now moving into the middle of July, which means our anniversary, Independence Day, my nephew's wedding and Jim's birthday are all in the rear view mirror.  This has been the busiest summer I've had in a long time, not that I'm complaining, mind you!  But that's just based on what the calendar says.  As far as stitching goes, I'm on island time....

This is progress to date on "Once Upon an Island".  Such fun, the perfect way to spend the evening in the Keys without the long drive to get there.  You'll see the corners haven't been filled as yet.  I do know what's going in those places, but have decided to wait until the scenery is complete before making color choices for those spots.  A few more details....

The dividing band between the rows of alphabet letter is working in one of the Stranded By the Sea threads I posted about in my last update.  This one is called "Mediterranean Sea", though it runs from sandy white to a silvery green.

The blackwork row was great fun!  It's been a long time since I've done any blackwork and I loved seeing the design emerge in the same mid-range blues of the alphabet and the water.  The little seaside church still needs it's window and door filled in, but I though Id wait to choose the right color for them once I'm a bit further along on the pictorial.  What's going on with that house under construction?  Well, picture a miniature version of Ernest Heminway's Key West home.  This is a picture of the real deal:

I'm so excited that Ernest decided to paint the storm shutters on his house the same tropical shade of yellow as I'm using on my beach blossoms. Dontcha love it when things that aren't planned come together so perfectly through pure happenstance?

I'm not sure what will happen at the bottom of the sampler once the pictorial is finished up.  The original has the quote "Once Upon an Island" there, but that doesn't do a thing for me.  The natural choice is a Hemigway quote, but I'm hard pressed to find one that suits the piece and fits the limited space allotment for it.  , Suggestions from any Hemingway buffs out there would be greatly appreciated!

This is how I've been whiling away my summer stitching time.  Sure wish there was more of it - I'm certain I'll blink my eyes tomorrow and it will be Halloween.  So as they like to remind folks down there..."No Worries, be happy!"
